Get the full experience...

Begin your holiday with an overnight hotel stay in Queensland’s capital, Brisbane, a vibrant riverside city that’s full of unique cultural offerings and spacious parks. Stroll long the winding Brisbane River and take a ride on the towering Wheel of Brisbane, a Ferris wheel offering panoramic views.

The next day you’ll head north by coach to Fraser Island, a captivating place of untamed beauty that was first colonised by humans as long as 5000 years ago. Its diverse eco-system is remarkable, ranging from swamps to sand dunes. You’ll stay at the award-winning Kingfisher Bay Resort on the west coast, the perfect gateway to the island’s treasures. Most of these can be seen on your second day when you’ll go on a four-wheel-drive tour of the island.

Stops include nearby Lake McKenzie, Wanggoolba Creek and The Maheno shipwreck, the remains of a luxury ship that was beached in 1935 while being towed to Japan to be broken up.

While here you’ll also enjoy a whale-watching cruise. The island is regarded as the country’s top destination for seeing magnificent humpback whales at close range and these huge creatures often put on a spectacular show.

On your fifth day you’ll take a ferry back to the mainland and board a coach to O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat in Lamington National Park, passing through the Canungra Valley on the way. Named after the legendary bushman who lived here, this delightful accommodation is in the heart of an ancient rainforest and boasts an infinity pool overlooking a stunning wooded valley, three dining areas and plenty of superb activities that make the most of the surroundings.

Take an early morning guided bird walk and stroll above the forest canopy on the 180-metre long suspension bridge. Within the park are also dramatic waterfalls, towering booyong trees and the wreck of a plane that crashed here in the 1930s. The rescue team that located the survivors was headed by Bernard O’Reilly, after whom this retreat was named.
