Begin your holiday with an overnight hotel stay in the multi-cultural city of Auckland before you journey north to the breathtaking Bay of Islands where you’ll embrace the scenery and discover the legends of the Hole in Rock. Enjoy some free time in the Bay of Islands to better explore this spectacular region before you begin your journey back to Auckland. En route, discover the charm of Whangarei, the northern-most city in New Zealand.

A tour of Auckland allows you to delve deeper into the fascinating city before you explore the magical Waitomo Caves and tour the famous Glow worm Grotto. Arriving in Rotorua, where you’ll enjoy a two night hotel stay to enjoy some time as leisure as well as indulge in an evening Maori village performance and traditional dinner; to learn more about the beautiful Maori culture.

Following your Rotorua stay, you’ll admire the roaring cascades of gallons of water as its plummets and soars over the edges of the famous Huka Falls in Taupo before arriving in Wellington, the nation’s capital. Here you’ll enjoy a hotel stay and sightseeing tour of the magnificent city before you return home in the afternoon.

Auckland

The lush greenery of Auckland’s rolling hills are punctuated by the eyewatering skyline of the city’s centre, offering the fascinating contrasts of modern architecture meets natural landscape. Head to Mount Eden for views across the city and both harbours, climb One Tree Hill and embrace spellbinding panoramic views and explore surrounding Cornwall Park, or pay a visit to the imposing Auckland Museum, a neoclassical temple that dominates the city skyline.

Bay of Islands

Following a hearty breakfast, you’ll bid farewell to Auckland and depart for Paihia in the beautiful Bay of Islands where you’ll embark on a cruise towards beautiful Cape Brett. Embrace the spectacular surrounding scenery as you sail through the deep blue waters to the famous Hole in the Rock on Motukokako Island. Rising 148 metres out of the Pacific Ocean, it’s an enclave rich in sheer cliffs, lush greenery and has a 16m-high hole that large enough for you to cruise through during a calm day. According to Maori legend, soldiers used to paddle through the hole and feel that the drops of water from the cave roof was a good omen before they went into battle.

Bay of Islands

Today, you’ll have some time at leisure to explore this stunningly beautiful bay, one of New Zealand’s most popular destinations, and it’s not hard to see why. Clear turquoise waters are peppered with remote islands that are home to unspoilt beaches make it the perfect place for water-based activities such as kayaking, diving and sailing. Spend some time on one of the beaches or head out on a boat trip to enjoy close encounters with the majestic wildlife of dolphins and whales playing together in the waters.

Auckland

Savour a tasty breakfast and some time at leisure this morning before you begin your return journey to Auckland. Your journey takes you to Whangarei, the northern-most city in New Zealand, home to the striking Whangarei Falls and the volcanic Mount Parihaka. Here you’ll enjoy a wander around one of the many art galleries displaying a variety of works from creative sculptures to blown-glass decorations; as well as amble the unique marina in the Town Basin, lined with boats dancing on the water. From here, you’ll delve into Parry Kauri Park for an enchanting walk along the well-made boardwalks, through the endemic bush to the picturesque lookout and kauri tree grove, New Zealand’s native forest giants.

Following your morning tour of Auckland’s city sights, you’ll venture south through the verdant Waikato agricultural district. Wander into the depths of the magical Waitomo Caves and cruise through the famous glow worm grotto, awash with the ethereal lights of thousands of glow worms. This evening, you’ll embark on an extremely entertaining cultural experience at the Tamaki Māori Village, where you’ll relish a Maori Village Cultural Performance and Traditional Hangi Dinner. Immerse yourself in the cultural spirit as you’re welcomed onto their sacred grounds in a traditional Maori ceremony and learn more about their fascinating customs and traditions.

The day is yours at leisure to explore the magic of Rotorua, a city renowned for its geothermal activity and Maori culture. For an unforgettable cultural experience, explore the fascinating Te Puia Thermal Valley and Arts and Crafts Centre. Spanning 70 hectares within the ancient Te Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley, on the edge of Rotorua, it’s home to the world-famous geyser, hot springs, the native kiwi bird and national schools of wood carving and weaving. As you roam the geothermal natural wonders, you’ll encounter pools of boiling water, stunning geysers and puddles of effervescent mud. Seek out the renowned Pōhutu geyser, the largest active geyser in the southern hemisphere that can reach heights of 30 metres when she erupts.

Leaving Rotorua behind, today you’ll journey through the dense climbing pine forests and lush farmland to the astonishing Huka Falls and tranquil Lake Taupo. Witness the marvel of natural hydro powers as more than 220,000 litres of water per second course over the precipice of the waterfall. Admire the awe-inspiring sight as the placid waters from the Waikato River gathers speed and tumble across the ravine before plummeting into the fierce waters at its feet. Gather on the bridge for close encounters of the powerful display before continuing on through the rich farming lands of the Manawatu to Wellington, the nation’s capital, where you’ll alight for your hotel stay.

Your final day of your New Zealand North Island discovery culminates with a city sights morning tour of Wellington. Following breakfast at your hotel, you’ll embark on your coach and drive through the city to the top of Mount Victoria. 196 metres high, you’ll enjoy taking a minute or two, just to ponder the breathtaking panoramic views of the city, the harbour and the ocean. You’ll also have plenty of time to explore the four buildings that make up the country’s Parliament Buildings, namely Parliament House, the Parliamentary Library, the Beehive, and Bowen House; as well as admire the array of fascinating exhibits at Te Papa Museum of New Zealand.
