Immerse yourself in the Spirit of Queensland, uncovering tropical villages, indigenous customs and incredible wildlife before acquainting yourself with the world’s largest reef system on a fascinating exploration of Cairns.
Spend a night in Brisbane, the capital of ‘The Sunshine State’, before embarking on a scenic Spirit of Queensland train journey to Cairns. The contemporary and comfortable carriage features personal in-seat entertainment and an extensive menu featuring everything from traditional roasts to fresh salads.
From your base in Cairns, where you’ll spend five nights in total, you’ll experience an enchanting rainforest rail journey through the beautiful Barron Gorge National Park, home to the turbulent Barron Falls. At the village of Kuranda you’ll visit a butterfly sanctuary which is home to the largest flight aviary in Australia.
This is followed by an escorted tour where you’ll get acquainted with some of Australia’s best-loved creatures including koalas, kangaroos and dingoes. The park is also home to the rare Lumholtz tree-kangaroo.
Learn to play the digeridoo, dance an aboriginal dance and witness the art of spear throwing before gliding back to Cairns above the treetops on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway.
An escorted Great Barrier Reef tour will leave you in awe as you learn all about the aquatic wildlife from a professional marine biologist. Venturing out by catamaran to the outer reef, you’ll get up close and personal with some of the reef’s most mesmerising creatures, from schools of coral trout to turtles.
Back in Cairns, enjoy some of the indigenous artwork at Cairns Art Gallery or soak up the history at Cairns Museum to learn about how this now-thriving port town was imposed on a steamy and inhospitable tropical landscape.

If time allows, head to Moreton Island, a quiet retreat of sandy dunes, bush and lagoons.
After you disembark from the comfort of the Spirit of Queensland, the balmy air and the azure waters of Cairns will transport you into a tropical paradise. The gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, Cairns enjoys thriving tourism, but a leisurely pace of life prevails here. Marvel at the menacing roar of the Barron Falls before you return to Kuranda for a visit to the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary. You’ll continue your nature discovery at the Rainforestation Nature Park. After a sumptuous lunch overlooking the lake, you’ll return to Cairns in style. Alighting the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, you’ll glide over the lush green canopy of the rainforest, admiring the incredible landscape vistas and the turquoise ocean beyond.
