Immerse yourself in the atmospheric city of Perth during a hotel stay, paired with a series of tours, before settling in for an all-inclusive rail journey to Sydney on board the regal Indian Pacific.

Perth, one of the world’s most remote cities and the capital of Western Australia, is where your holiday begins. Facing the vast expanse of the Indian Ocean, it’s a place that makes the most of its coastal location and is brimming with cultural treats and historical attractions. Enjoy a five-night hotel stay here to discover some of its treasures both at your leisure and through a series of tours.

Embark on a leisurely cruise along Swan River. Alight for a mouth-watering lunch at the Sandalford Estate, following a behind-the-scenes tour of the winery and enjoy thrilling live entertainment before your cruise back to the city.

You’ll then savour a taste of Perth and Fremantle during a half-day tour where you’ll discover some of the city’s major attractions nestled within the refreshed Perth CBD before escaping to Fremantle.

Your final day of touring this sunny city takes you to beautiful Rottnest Island where you’ll embrace some of its most spectacular highlights, including the Wadejemup Lighthouse, the rugged West End and the famously cute quokkas.

Following your hotel stay, you’ll embark the Indian Pacific for an iconic transcontinental voyage to Sydney, following the path of bush pioneers and gold rush prospectors. This is one of the world’s finest coast-to-coast crossings featuring the longest stretch of straight railway track in the world. Cocooned in luxury, you’ll savour all-inclusive dining in the Queen Adelaide Restaurant, relax in your private cabin with en-suite, and leave the train for several wonderful Off Train Experiences, ensuring this enthralling journey is one to remember.

The first of these experiences is to the former gold rush town of Kalgoorlie Boulder, once a prosperous place where a number of elaborate buildings were constructed, many of which remain standing to this day. After rolling through the barren beauty of the vast Nullarbor Plain, you’ll stop in Cook, now known as a ghost town with just a handful of residents. You’ll then visit Adelaide, where you can take a city tour, and then the artistic community of Broken Hill, the country’s silver capital.

Next, you’ll stop at the scenic highlight of your journey. The majestic Blue Mountains of New South Wales are awash with lush eucalyptus forests and striking rock formations such as the Three Sisters, a series of sandstone pillars that jut out of the landscape. It’s a formidable terrain blessed with an abundance of wildlife including koalas, dingoes and endangered birds, and the perfect way to end your journey. Disembarking the Indian Pacific in Sydney station you’ll have the rest of the day and night to explore this cosmopolitan city before flying home the following day.

Welcome aboard the Indian Pacific

Experience one of the few truly transcontinental rail journeys in the world with a voyage on board the Indian Pacific service, which travels across the breadth of southern Australia in incomparable style. Part of Journey Beyond Rail Expeditions, the Indian Pacific speeds from coast to coast on a storied journey that follows in the footsteps of bush pioneers, gold rush greed, and famous adventurers who forged to discover the barren natural beauty of Australia’s famously unforgiving outback.

Know the Facts

The dream of a transcontinental rail service began in the 1890s, but it was not until 1969 that an uninterrupted rail track linked the Indian Ocean in the west to the Pacific Ocean in the east. The train’s first full transcontinental journey took place on 23 February 1970, when more than 10,000 people welcome the historic train to the city of Perth. Today, the 774-metre-long train travels the 4,350 kilometres between Sydney and Perth in approximately 65 hours. It is instantly recognisable by its bold wedge-tailed eagle emblem.
